VOX

The story of VOX Amplification is a tale that begins with a young amplifier designer named Dick Denney in 1957. Denney, himself a guitarist, understood the evolving world of the electric guitar and the demands of musicians in the late 1950s. Working diligently with the team at England's JMI Corporation, he embarked on a mission to create an amplifier that could provide the volume and sustain that guitarists were yearning for.
Their efforts bore fruit in January 1958 with the introduction of the AC1/15 amplifier, which marked the debut of the VOX name on a guitar amplifier. This momentous occasion laid the foundation for an institution that would thrive for nearly six decades. The AC1/15, later shortened to AC15, quickly became a favorite among London's top guitarists, including Vic Flick, renowned for using it on the iconic recording of the "James Bond Theme."
As the 1960s rolled in, the era of Rock 'n' Roll was on the rise, and Denney and the VOX team were keenly aware of the need for more powerful amplifiers. Instead of starting from scratch, Denney decided to build upon the successful AC15 design, doubling its power. To accommodate the increased power, the amplifier's cabinet was expanded, and an additional speaker was added. The result was the AC30/4 Twin, a game-changer boasting 30 watts, two 12" Celestion speakers, four inputs, and two channels – Normal and Vibrato. It became a sensation among Rock 'n' Rollers in London, solidifying VOX as the most coveted amplifier brand in all of Britain.
In July 1962, two aspiring musicians from Liverpool acquired their very first VOX amplifiers: an AC15 Twin and a Top Boost-equipped AC30 Twin. That same year, this group released a song called "Love Me Do," altering the course of popular music forever. The distinctive sound of their jangling guitars became the gold standard for great guitar tone, propelling VOX to the status of the world's most sought-after guitar amplifier.
The massive success of VOX in the 1960s laid the cornerstone for a legacy that continues to thrive nearly six decades later. Many of the amplifiers that artists relied on back then are still treasured and used today. Amplifiers like the AC4, AC15, and AC30 remain the most beloved VOX products, cherished by guitarists in search of that classic chime.
VOX Amplification hasn't rested on its laurels but has continued the tradition of innovation that Dick Denney initiated in the late 1950s.
