Mewsic is a non-profit organization started in India by Australian cricket legend Brett Lee
VISION: Every child experiences, and benefits from the joy and power of music in India. MISSION: Music is widely recognized and used as a powerful tool to heal, empower, educate and advocate for marginalized children in India.
MUSIC TO HEAL Through a collaborative partnership with The Music Therapy Trust of India, the Brett Lee Foundation will pioneer Music Therapy in India as an integral tool in healing the physical, mental and emotional wounds of marginalized children in India. In 2011 the Foundation will initiate a pilot project in Kashmir and work with children who have been victims of war, using Music Therapy (a clinically and internationally renowned form of therapy) to heal the trauma experienced in war zones in the conflict state of Kashmir.
MUSIC TO EDUCATE Working in conjunction with leading Indian education NGO, Pratham, The Brett Lee Foundation will tackle two major issues faced by children in underprivileged communities in India: limited opportunity to learn music and a lack of innovative approaches to make learning fun. a) Music in Communities The Brett Lee Foundation will establish ‘Community Music Centre’s in slum communities, NGO’s, institutions and villages. The Centre’s will make private tuition classes available for 100 children in guitar, keyboard, tabula and flute, and foster the formation of music groups such as choirs and bands. b) Music in Schools The Foundation will pioneer the development of innovative teaching modules to teach children difficult subjects like Math and Science, through music. With a ‘rote learning’ approach to teaching in India, there is great scope to introduce new learning styles which make learning fun and interactive. MUSIC TO EMPOWER a) MusoMagic Workshops Through the power of music and songwriting, underprivileged children will be given an opportunity to express themselves and their problems in a safe & nurturing environment. Working in partnership with MusoMagic, a leading organization in Australia, the Foundation will facilitate groups of vulnerable children writing the lyrics and melody of their very own song, along with choreographing and performing in their own music video. .
